Brochure: HMG information assurance - Executive summary

Since the early part of 2014, the Government has been making fundamental changes to its Information Assurance policies. The changes are a result of the Civil Service Reform plan published by the Cabinet Office in 2012. This aims to improve security, reduce costs, enable the use of modern technologies and products, and facilitate the sharing of information between agencies.

The basic driver behind these changes is that government organisations should use pragmatic, proportionate, risk based assessments as to the security of their systems and their data. There is a move away from rigorously defined processes towards a greater emphasis on practicality and embedding positive behaviours.
