Automation test engineer

We're looking for an Automation Test Engineer to work on a number of projects on a permanent basis across the UK.

The candidate

We are looking for someone who excels technically in multiple areas. You must have solid hands-on experience using UFT or equivalent, as well as experience using other performance tools such as; Selenium. Web based testing is essential, but experience with other protocols (particularly Citrix and .NET) will be very useful.

  • Minimum of 3-5 yrs hands on testing experience
  • Experience of Test Complete a must
  • Experience of Performance/ Capacity testing – Eggplant experience an advantage but not essential
  • Must have full test life cycle experience
  • Role will include involvement in Regression testing (using automated testing tools), UAT testing to test the end user experience and performance testing
  • Experience of retail/EPOS – store management systems would be a distinct advantage but not essential
  • ISEB certification preferable

  • Role and accountability

  • C# programming skills with experience of test automation (Java experience would also be considered)
  • Good understanding of HP tools UFT, and or Selenium
  • Good understand of Automation frameworks (Skilled in at least one)
  • Familiar with agile methodologies such as Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery
  • Analysing results and contributing to interim or test exit reports
  • Aware of automation related issues and how to handle / escalate
  • Appropriate recording and escalation of issues to client and Capita
  • Awareness of different automation applications, including open source alternatives

  • Essential skills

  • Ideally 5-7 years' experience working within a Automation Tester
  • Solid experience across a wide range of tools
  • Ability to code and re-design the way tools operate, to help solve complex technical issues
  • Ability to demonstrate success working within a similar environment
  • You must have a strong background within IT, with good knowledge around coding and frameworks; ideally Visual Basic and .Net
  • Excellent customer relationship skills and ability to guide and advise clients accordingly
  • Deep understanding of the software development life cycle
